Miami, FL – In a sign of the strong momentum his candidacy for State Senate District 39 has generated across South Florida, Representative Javier Fernandez (D-Miami) will report having amassed more than $104,000 towards his campaign to flip this battleground district in 2020.
Reflecting the excitement generated during his first month on the trail, Representative Javier Fernandez brought in $56,455 to the official campaign account, $17,000 to the Florida Future Political Committee, and $31,250 rolled over from his State House re-election campaign.
“I am humbled by the outpouring of support our campaign has received in just our first month on the trail,” declared Representative Javier Fernandez. “The people of this district are ready for commonsense solutions to the problems we face as a region. In the State Senate, I’ll build consensus in order to deliver results for our community by improving our transportation infrastructure, supporting public schools, prioritizing affordable housing, and combatting the adverse effects of climate change and sea-level rise.”
In 2020, State Senate District 39 represents the top battleground as Democrats look to continue the march towards a Democratic majority in the Florida Senate. An open seat due to term limits, Hillary Clinton claimed the district by more than 10% in 2016 and it was won again by Andrew Gillum in 2018. In addition to the electoral advantages Democrats bring to the district, Representative Javier Fernandez has earned the endorsement of the seventeen-member Senate Democratic Caucus and has the full structural support of Senate Victory to continue building a winning campaign.
